Since the course is for Bachelor students in Computer Science and Business
Informatics, the language of the course is German. Thus the lectures are given
in German, also the textbook and the collection of homework examples are written
in German.
However, in the following we give some information for English speaking
master students requiring the course as a supplementary course.
- As learning material we suggest that you use one of the many textbooks
on calculus written in English, e.g., the following book which uses an
ordering of the topics similar to the ones in the german textbook used for
the course:
David Alexander Brannan: "First Course in Mathematical Analysis", Cambridge
University Press.
The following topics are of relevance to the course: Sequences, Series,
Continuity, Limits and Continuity, Differentiation of real functions in one
variable, Integration of real functions in one variable, Power Series,
Continuity and Differentiation of real functions in several variables.
The before mentioned book does not contain topics on real functions in
several variables, thus, to cover them also, we suggest, e.g., parts of
Chapter 10 in the following textbook: Alessandro Fonda: "A Modern
Introduction to Mathematical Analysis", Birkhäuser.
- Please register in TISS for the course by registering to one of the
groups on Thursday (not on Wednesday), i.e., to one of the groups B, C, E,
F, H, I, K, L, N, O, Q, R. For these groups I will provide English
translations of the homework exercises, which you will find in the TUWEL
course always at about one week in advance of the corresponding exercise
lesson. It is not plannted to devote a particular group on Thursday
exclusively to English speaking master students, since we do not expect so
many such students.
- Please prepare the requested homework exercises for each exercise lesson
and mark the solved examples in the TUWEL course. It is mandatory to attend
to the exercise lessons of your group. Of course, if you are requested to
show the solution of homework exercises in front of the class, you can give
these presentations in English.
- Upon request we provide English exam sheets for you:
If an English exam sheet is required for the final exam, please contact me
via E-Mail at least one week prior to the final exam.
If you require English exam sheets for the two midterm exams (i.e.
"Übungstests") that take place twice in the summer term during the exercise
lessons, please contact the leader of your exercise group.
