In general, for finding train/bus connections within Austria or from/to neighboring countries the query form of the Austrian railways OEBB may be useful. Via Salzburg: For many participants it's recommendable to travel directly to Salzburg. There are direct flights from many cities, e.g., Vienna, Paris, Munich (only about 150 km from Salzburg: timetable for the train connection Munich-Salzburg on Sunday), Frankfurt. There is a public bus ("Postbus") from Salzburg railway station to Strobl (choose the bus to "Bad Ischl") which stops in Strobl (station "Strobl Bahnhof") approximately 1 km away from the conference venue ("Bundesinstitut"), for a timetable for Sunday click here. We will provide a shuttle service from Strobl bus station to the conference site for buses arriving on Sunday after 2 pm. For a map of Strobl with the Bundesinstitut marked with a big red dot and the bus stop marked with a big blue dot, click here. In order to get from the Salzburg airport to the railway station there is a regular bus connection (O-Bus). Via Vienna: There is also a railway station closer to Strobl (distance appr. 10 km) than Salzburg, namely the traditional small town Bad Ischl. This approach can be recommended especially for participicants coming via Vienna (or from other south eastern directions). At Attnang-Puchheim (half way between Linz and Salzburg) one has to change to a side line going in southern direction. A timetable for trains from Vienna to Bad Ischl on Sunday can be found here. From Bad Ischl railway station there is a bus to Strobl (click here). We will provide a shuttle service from Strobl bus station to the conference site after 2 pm. Connection from the Vienna airport (Schwechat) to the railway station Wien Westbahnhof: The canonical way is to take a bus from the airport to Westbahnhof, you find a timetable here. You may may also take a train to Landstrasse/Wien Mitte and change here to the subway U3 (direction Ottakring) which has a stop at Westbahnhof. Of course, it is also possible to take a taxi from the airport to the railway station. By car: If you come in your own car, follow these directions: from Vienna or Salzburg: Leave the Vienna - Salzburg Motorway A1 (Westautobahn) at exit Mondsee. Follow the signs to St. Gilgen on the Highway B154 and continue on the Highway B158 along the southern bank of the Wolfgangsee in the direction of Bad Ischl. Turn left at the sign to Strobl. Longer stays: For longer stays, you could consider the following hotels in Salzburg (some of the following pages may be German-only, sorry).
All of these hotels are less than 10 minutes walk from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (the terminal train station), from where buses to Strobl leave/arrive. Back to main page. |
